Construction workers prepare the base course of the additional lanes in Sta. Rita, Guiguinto, Bulacan as part of the P2.6-billion NLEX Road Widening Project of the Manila North Tollways Corporation (MNTC). MNTC is expanding NLEX Segment 2 (Sta. Rita to San Fernando) and Segment 3 (Dau to Sta. Ines) to address the increase in the volume of vehicles using the tollway connecting Metro Manila to Central and North Luzon. Based on latest MNTC data, average daily vehicle entries in NLEX rose from 200,000 in 2015 to 219,000 as of press time.
MNTC president Rodrigo E. Franco explained, “Additional lanes are being built in certain portions of the expressway to maintain the high quality service we provide motorists.” To be completed in December this year, the project expands the existing two-lane portion of NLEX between Sta. Rita and San Fernando to three lanes on both the northbound and southbound sides, while the current one-lane stretch between Dau and Sta. Ines expands to two lanes on both sides.
