New NLEX exit opens in Valenzuela City

Date Posted : July 11, 2017

Economic activities in Valenzuela City are set to become more efficient as the NLEX Corporation, formerly Manila North Tollways Corporation, opens today, July 11, a new southbound exit in Barangay Lingunan.

An inaugural drive-thru of the Lingunan Exit led by Valenzuela City Mayor Rex Gatchalian, Vice Mayor Lorena Natividad-Borja, and NLEX Corporation President and CEO Rodrigo Franco marked the opening of the new exit to Valenzuela City.

Also present were City Councilors, NLEX Corporation Senior Vice President for Tollways Development and Engineering Raul Ignacio, Senior Vice President for Communication and Stakeholder Management Atty. Romulo Quimbo Jr., Vice President for Project Management Nemesio Castillo, and Vice President for Legal and Regulatory Services Joseph Marigomen.

With fast-paced developments and heightened commercial activities, vehicular traffic at the Valenzuela Interchange in Barangay Paso de Blas has dramatically grown, making it congested during peak hours.

“The new Lingunan Exit aims to decongest the Valenzuela Interchange which caters to approximately 13,000 vehicles coming in and out of the City via NLEX,” said Franco.

“Aside from providing travel convenience, the new exit will also make the industrial hubs and subdivisions in Barangay Lingunan and nearby areas more accessible,” added Franco, citing that “motorists from the north may now take the Lingunan Exit when going to Valenzuela City instead of proceeding to Paso de Blas and Karuhatan exits.”

The NLEX Corporation has undertaken the construction of the new exit in Valenzuela City along with two other exits in Meycauayan City as part of the company’s commitment to better serve expressway users.

For his part, Valenzuela City Mayor Rex Gatchalian welcomed the opening of the Lingunan Exit, noting that “improvement projects like this will make the City more vibrant and more attractive to potential investors thus greatly benefit motorists and businesses in the area.”

The City Government of Valenzuela has since supported the NLEX Corporation in its projects meant to ease traffic congestion and boost socio-economic growth. Among these projects are the NLEX Segments 9 and 10 which will form the NLEX Harbor Link aimed at facilitating efficient transport of goods from Central and North Luzon to the country’s premier harbors.

Segment  9, which has been operational since March 2015, is 2.4-kilometer expressway that links NLEX to MacArthur Highway in Karuhatan, Valenzuela City. Stretching 5.7 kilometers long, the under construction Segment 10 will largely be an elevated expressway, directly linking NLEX and MacArthur Highway to Manila’s Port Area district.
