Construction workers work on the asphalt overlay of the Tarlac-bound portion of Porac, Pampanga, as part of extending NLEX’s world class features to Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX). The Manila North Tollways Corporation (MNTC), concessionaire of NLEX and SCTEX, has earmarked P1 billion for the pavement improvement of the entire 94-km stretch of SCTEX from 2016 to 2018. The 2016 pavement upgrade amounting to P350 million includes asphalt overlay and road patching of Porac in Pampanga to Concepcion in Tarlac, while the 2017 upgrade involves the repair from Porac to Floridablanca and from Concepcion to San Miguel. In 2018, pavement works will be from Floridablanca to Tipo and from San Miguel to La Paz. MNTC president Rodrigo E. Franco said, “The SCTEX pavement upgrade aims to increase the level of comfort and convenience of motorists during travel and further provide a seamless connection between NLEX and SCTEX.” To date, around 39 lane kilometers out of 122 lane kilometers have already been paved at the mainline, while 16 lane kilometers out of the total 61 lane kilometers have been paved at the outer shoulder of the expressway.
