Building of P10.5B NLEX Harbor Link Segment 10 makes steady progress
Date Posted : July 28, 2016
The 5.65-kilometer NLEX Harbor Link Segment 10 ---an elevated expressway designed to provide 24/7 direct access between the port area and the northern provinces of Luzon through NLEX---is now 37% complete and is expected to be operational by July 2017. The P10.5-billion project begins at MacArthur Highway in Valenzuela, passes through Governor Pascual Avenue in Malabon, and ends at C3 road in Caloocan. Segment 10 will eventually extend to R10 via an exit ramp.
The Segment 10 employees (inset photo) inspect the elevated roadway which is supported by more than 300 columns, almost 200 crossheads, and more than 1,200 girders. It has a deck portion where barriers separating the northbound and southbound sides of the expressway are being constructed.
“Once Segment 10 begins operating next year, travel time from Manila Port Area to NLEX and back will be just 10 minutes,” said MNTC president Rodrigo E. Franco. “The project will decongest Metro Manila since Segment 10 provides a very good alternative to C3 and A. Bonifacio Avenue.” More than bringing travel efficiency, the new expressway will spur greater development in CAMANAVA and stimulate commerce between the Harbor area and Central and North Luzon.
